HOW TO GET THERE:
AUTO: Pisa-Florence motorway, exit Pontedera – Ponsacco, follow the SS439 towards Volterra, detour on the road for Casciana Spa – Chianni.
BUS: CPT-town, destination Pontedera, and even extra-CPT, in Le Case.
Train: Pisa-Florence to Pontedera, then CPT-town (see above).
DESCRIPTION:
City of Lombard and medieval castle fought over by the Bishop of Volterra and the Republic of Pisa, Chianni was conquered by Guido da Montefeltro, by Dante. Famous in the fourteenth and fifteenth century to the mining of alum, was taken by the Medici, attentive to the appropriation of this fundamental resource useful for the production of wool and fabrics. The old part of the remains of medieval houses and fortifications. Famous and renowned for its sulphurous waters, known as "health water" Chianni is surrounded by forests of cedars, oaks and chestnut trees which give a rich undergrowth of wild plants, with a moist soil and cool crossed by small streams.
